Koi No Yokan - Again, get fucked Louder Sound. It's also not as comfortable pushing boundaries as they'd been previously, and feels stale. Beware, Cherry Waves, Xerces - but it also has a song about truck stop anal (Pink Cellphone). Saturday Night Wrist - There are some amazing songs on this album. Gore - Prayers/Triangles is also a classic Deftones anthem, but I would put this album at 8. Ohms - Yeah get fucked LouderSound, this should be #3. it's not as solid as WP and still in my mind suffers because it came out after WP. And I still have personal connections to Needles and Pins, plus Bloody Cape is amazing but. Self-titled - Minerva's one of those classic 'tones tracks, like Change, that just soar to the heavens and hit you right in the core of your being. And I like that they don't repeat themselves but always sound like themselves, even when they're doing new things. Then this album comes out, and it has classic deftones elements without sounding like any other deftones record. After SNW, and Chi's death, there was a real fear the band were just done. Good album, with some absolutely killer tracks, but it just feels a little bit less intimate than their latter catalogue.ĭiamond Eyes - I'd probably put this at #4 too. I'd rank this as my #1 but I can see why artistically WP might have the edge.Īdrenaline - I think this is too high on the list. I even that that random, stoned Chino sound clip off the CD (before Damone) as my voicemail when I was a student. I had and liked some of the stuff off Adrenaline, but ATF came out the year I finished high school and so my (southern hemisphere) summer was soundtracked by this album. Also Feiticera is the first track, and Back to School is from the Mini-Maggit EP!Īround the Fur - This was my first deftones album. It's just such a confident and mature album for them, and I remember how visceral the shift from Adrenaline and ATF felt to this before deciding this was an almost perfect album. Essentially a person's ranked list, published in a heavy music periodical, I'm not sure I agree with their rankings:
